Health Status and Fuel Check


This is part of a series of updates on my 90 Days & Ship It! Jam 2021 journey. 12 weeks left!

Progress Report

I started off by mainly deciding on the planned features for the release on August 7th and also implemented a few gameplay mechanics and other minor things:

  • Added basic gamepad support (tested with Xbox Controller)
  • Added health and fuel properties (I’ll add a proper UI later). The amount of damage depends on the speed of the spaceship and material properties of the wall. When you run out of fuel the spaceship just floats in space until it eventually hits a wall.
  • Added a separate particle effect to show if the spaceship is damaged
  • Tested nw.js for packaging to Windows/Linux/macOS

Notes

I initially planned to continuously update the HTML5 version on the game page as I add/improve features. But I decided to stick to these weekly reports and keep the current prototype as is until the day of release. The videos that I’ll add at the top of these posts will give you an idea of the final game.
